Young Jesse Lance is two months old today, and he celebrated by drinking milk and wearing a party hat. At his last check-up he weighed in at 14 lbs.--he definitely inherited a hearty Bridgman appetite! We plan to be up in the Bow area for a couple weeks around Halloween time and we'd love for Jesse to meet his relatives. Drop us a line if we can arrange a visit!

Yesterday, August 14th, at the Bridgman Family Barn in Bow, David and Becky were married. It was a beautiful and meaningful ceremony.

Of course it was not without a few surprises including the groom and his attendants cruising down Bow Hill via bicycles and arriving at the barn at their appointed time. Yes, that is Lettie, flanked by Peter and Wade, I think, in her dress and shiny black shoes! The men are wearing tuxedos, with one pant leg rolled up of course.

The stunning couple embrace and kiss to seal the deal.

This is the view from our deck. You have to come see it. It is beautiful here. Good to hear all of the good new. We are going to Spokane this weekend to bring all of the stuff back that Jessica has accumlated over the last three or so years that she has been over there. She will student teach at BEHS starting the 22nd. She will graduate June 11th. We are so proud. Amber and Tyler are patiently awaiting the birth of Oliver's little brother due June 8th. Dan and I are just enjoying being up here in the peace and quiet and love having Oliver as a neighbor. We all wish the best for Peggy and if there is anything that we can do please let us know.

Here's some news from the family that has come my way. Mom and dad are getting along pretty well at home and are happy to be there but like the rest of us are ready for winter to be over. They still have 24 hour caregivers from Visiting Angels. Saw Bob and he said Cody and Conner are hitting big in baseball in Alabama. I don't have too many details, but think I will get Bob to make a post!!!! Watch for it. Candy got back from working a dogsled race in Fairbanks AK a couple of weeks ago. You should have seen her outfit we picked out for her to wear at Value Village to survive the bitter cold of 50 below zero!! Maybe she'll post her photo! I'm going to get into trouble witth her. Oliver is going to have a baby brother. David and Becky are planning atheir wedding for next summer. Peter has gone full-time at the Pickle Factory on Dodge Valley Road. Leah and Terry think they have their house sold, cross your fingers. Cameron won 1st place at the state wrestling tourney at the Tacoma Dome(35-0 season record),a couple of weeks ago, Dillon is working like crazy at the NSC Corporation and saving money and Foster is wrestling and playing soccer. Jon and Eric are planning a 2 week stay in Bow, WA this summer sometime around the 4th and are looking for a possible rental spot that is child frienldly complete with dirt, rocks blackberries, trees to climb and the like. Do you know of such a place?? Tyler/Amber, Dan, Sue, Jessie, Kelli, Beau, Mallory what's up? Donna?

On a serious note Peggy is going to Seattle next week for stem cell transplant and she and Mike will be staying there with her for 3 months. Lettie is taking a leave from her job and will be of great help. They all need our prayers and support.

Here we are in Northern Washington, visiting the Bridgman Clan, we of course had to make a stop at Mom's new place being built in Bay View. Nik was super excited about the tractor parked out front.

He also really enjoyed his tractor times at Auntie Tindy's house while we stayed there for 3 nights and then we moved to Auntie Candy's for another 3 nights.

Off to feed the cows.

First five minutes at Aunt Tindy's and he is already in love with her, she owns a tractor, how cool is that (at least I think that's what he is thinking).

Grandma B. turned 88 0n Wednesday, October 21st. Did you know she was born in Victoria, British Columbia and moved to Seattle when she was 2 years old? She stopped by the Wades house on her birthday drive with Grandpa and caregiver Linda Bishop at the wheel. She had time to help do the chores before lunch and helped feed the cows chickens and pigs. She said she didn't think she was up for the job daily since winter is coming.

She enjoyed her birthday cupcake and TRIED to blow out the candle Foster picked for her cake. (Foster it was a trick candle right???!!!) Granny is one tough girl!

Oliver is One!

Oliver loved his ice cream cake!
He was a little shy when we put the gogles on him. These came with his great tool set from his Aunt Jessie!

He really liked his bear he got from Great Aunt Cindy.

Oliver celebrated his birthday for two days. He was one on Friday but we had the BBQ party on Saturday with family and friends. He wasn't sure about blowing out the candle but with a little help from mommy he got his wish. When it came to Saturday he decided to take a little nap after lunch (wouldn't we all) so it postponed opening his presents. We really appreciated the family that came and know that some had other plans. We had fun playing Boche Ball and Ladder Ball. He received a lot of great gifts! He is going to have so much fun. The books that he got he will look forward to reading with his mommy and daddy! We all love you Oliver and glad that you had a great day!

Just returned from a fun vacation in Eastern Washington! We

stayed at Terry's sister's cabin on Lake Cle Elum in the town of Ronald with them and went on miles and miles of fun but dirty 4 wheeler trails(check out the moustache and dirt beard above), then headed to Crescent Bar on the Columbia River to ride our jet skii's and finally to Banks Lake near the Grand Coulee Dam. We had so much fun!

Life is good in TP. Jenny is coming to an end on her ranch manager job at Schwarz Ranch (460 acres), north of town. Soon she is moving on to a property management job for a house east of town toward the gorge. Jenny works like a jackrabbit or a beaver on all her projects. Candy, Jenny and I had a whirlwind week and whacky bus ride between Denver and TP. (break down, bug infestation and evacuation, interesting riders and alot more!!!) All in all it was a terrific time.

Watch for pics from Candy about the Jon, Kelly, Caleb and Abby vist to the ranch.

Looking forward to Jenny's Washington visit in September.

Let's See Your Garden!

This year Terry and I planted a pretty garden for "show" since our house is for sale. Everything in it was started by my students at school. We had a big plant sale in May and earned $1,500. We only weed and water so (no fertilizer). Our petunia's and pansies were not well marked when we bought them from the students so when we planted them it was a surprise what color they would be. We have eaten radishes, strawberries and we just got some ripe tomato's. Let's see what you have! Camera batteries just went dead so more photo's coming soon!!!

I am so excited about growing a pumpkin this year, a New England Sugar Pie Pumpkin. It has many flowers and a few small pumpkins, but a couple of them have died, probably too humid here. Of course it decided to grow in the opposite direction of what I had planned, I had cleared a space to the right and it grew towards the rose bushes instead. They have pumpkins here but not what an American would consider as one, no orange flesh. Come and visit this winter if you want homemade pumpkin pie.

Ali and Sarah found all of their favorites at the food table. It was a seafood extravaganza with Bob at the bar-b-que. Get this: grilled tuna, sturgeon, salmon, prawns, oysters, steamed clams, boiled dungeness crab and a turkey. Look in the background of most of the pictures and you will see many "food OD'd" on the ground.

With the flag flapping, sun shining, cherry, apple, plum trees, and bright red rhododendron blooming, and after four long months away, mom returned to the farm yesterday! Alan and Bob are checking Dad out from Josephine this morning and he will be joining her. It has been quite a "project" to get to this point, and of course will continue to be, but we are certain they both will be happiest at home!! With Tindy at the "helm" we have really pulled together and rallied. Hard work is not foreign to our family.

This is a very happy Mother's Day for me. the Smith Clan is hiking from West Beach, past Deception Pass to Cornet Bay and Thai Food in Anacortes. Wishing all the remarkable "mamas" in our family a terrific one, too.

Gramps and Granny are here! A mystery guest is also here, Lawrence Hansen and his son Marvin Walgren also made to check if Grandpa is still kicking. Lawrence is Gramps' childhood friend and fishing buddy. Ate a lot and the egg dying is still in existance. The hunt is going to be challenging as the weather is not cooperating. Spring really is on it's way!

Then, of course there is spring planting. Andrew uses a "dibble stick" to plant some of Great Grandpa Bridgman's Atlantic Giant Pumpkin Seeds.

Andrew also built a "ding" about which you will need to speak to him regarding the technical details.

The whole extended Bridgman family can't wait until they return and bring the rest of the family, Owen, Leslie, baby sister, cousins aunts and uncles. What great fun for us! Bridgman Family Update

Dear Brothers, Sisters, and Families,

I am posting this note to let you know about a few family dates upcoming in March and April.

Friday night is family night at Josephine. We thought we could all join Mom and Dad, Friday, March 20th, for dinner to celebrate Dad’s 88th birthday. We will gather at 5:45 p.m. in the cafeteria. You will need to call the Josephine Home at 360-629-2126 to let them know how many from your family will be attending.
Sunday Morning, March 22nd, 10:00 a.m. join in the family work party at Sullivan Road. Wear your “grubs”, bring your gloves, tools, wit, and sense of humor. J Come prepared for barn work, house work, yard work, and bonfire. Hopefully we can “clear the way” for the possibility of the “parentals” returning home, with full time care, for the summer months. Yes, I know it sounds like a lot of work, but we seem to know how to make “work party” more party than work, right? Lunch will be provided.

Sunny Day Drive

Sorry for no photo but it was a beeeeuuuutiful day in Stanwood and Gramps and Granny went for a sunny day drive to Camano Island with tour guide Tindy. They toured the Utsalady boat launch beach, a site where Gramps and Granny last dug clams together a couple of years ago, gazed at the big pile of snow, aka Mount Baker to the north, got some ice cream sandwiches at the Maple Grove grocery and then traveled on to Sunset Drive for an estate sale. Nothing good there. After that they traveled to the Wade beach place for a look around and a gander at the Olympic range jutting out of the water bright and bold on this clear day. Amazing how ther clear air and skies can brighten your spirits!! On to one more HUGE sale that turned out to be a FIZZLE and then back to Josephine Sunset Home just in time for social hour and entertainment and "guess what" ICE CREAM! Granny rushed in to get hers. Won't eat her mashed potatoes and gravy but she'll break your arm for her ice cream!! GO GRANNY!

Gramps has a swollen area around his surgery incision that is slowly reducing in size. His doctors and nurses are keeping a close eye on it. He is walking all over the place and is not using his wheel chair now, Yeah! Granny is continuing her physical therapy and says she'll quit slacking! Hope so.

Is there any news out there, just wondering how Grandma and Grandpa are doing?
We are doing fine here in Greece, the weather is still a little chilly but I see spring coming in the green fields. Going to the hospital and seeing other children Nik's age makes us realize what a very smart child we have, not only is he physically more advanced than other children his age but intelligence wise he is also more advanced. He understands what you tell him and will for the most part do what you ask of him, of course he is very opinionated and if you ask him to do something he doesn't want to do then he will scream his head off. He knows how to put lids on things, he also helps me put laundry into the washer put then he likes to pull all of the pots out of the drawers. He doesn't speak the word "No" but he can shake his head no and this applies to things that he knows he's not supposed to touch but he will try to touch them and at the same time he is shaking his head no, very funny. He can reach the table and will put things on it and if your not careful will also take things off of it. He can also reach some of our light switches and likes to open and close the lights. Gramps and Granny

Picked up Gramps at the Red Cross Shelter at Stanwood High cafeteria last night at 9pm. Josephine Home had to evacuate 135 people from the facility and they set up army cots in the gym and common areas. This happened a few years ago and invoves quite an effort for staff, school kids who help and the community. What a field trip!! We decided to pick dad up and granny is happy gramps is coming over, but he and she are still both VERY MUCH on the "bannana peel". It will be a day or two till Josephine will be back to normal and then grandpa and grandma will be going there together for some rehab and therapy. Just yesterday Mike B. and I met with staff to discuss dads progress and goals for both he and mom and the hope that mom can join him soon for therapy. They want to stick together.

It appears that this situation could go on another day or so since the Stillaguamish river isn't expected to crest until late today. All of western Washington is having "Flood Warning". All passes over the Cascades are closed and will be for a day or so and I- 5 south of Olympia has a 20 mile stretch that is underwater and will be for a couple of days. Rocks twice the size of cars are falling onto I-5 near Bellingham. Crazy weather and no school for most schools today.

Alan and Mike B. battened down the hatches, moved vehicles and hay off the farm on Sullivan road. The Bridgman family is glad gramps and granny are not out there on the farm this week!

Haven't got the pictures yet, but I did want to get in the holiday greeting. The picture will have lots of snow, fried eggs and red chile (you can have that if you have been shoveling snow for days, right?) Bonnie our dog bounding over the snow banks, a snow covered outside Christmas tree, chile lights on the inside tree, an old sled pressed into service to haul in wood from the vanishing wood pile, and our chickens hunkered down in their cozy little chicken house. We even have good company as our neighbors are all snowbound too. Haven't heard of any of you caught in the airports....there's no place like home when the weather is threatening. There are SOME OF US bragging about shorts and flip flops, but we send our Holiday Greetings to all, wherever you may be. Love, Terry and Jennifer

A great kid day of snow and play. Cameron on the right, (red coat) and Trevin and Sean old school friends have some great fun towing each other on the 4 wheeler. Cameron and Sean complain about Trevin's driving but he is the only one with a license! Foster and Dillon made a jump for the know sled. Foz caught some air. Our snow was too dry to make a snowman. Good job Leah, Terry and Candy for your dapper snow men! We'll try again tommorow. Keep watching the blog.

Here in Sedro-Woolley we have a ton of snow. There is at least a foot! School was cancelled today and Terry did not have work either which made for a FUN snow day! We made a snowman, went for a snowy walk and rode our 4 wheeler around. More fun to come....2 days until Winter Break. Maybe fewer days until break if this snow sticks around. Yeah!!! ***Leah :)

Here I am doing my "job". It's not to hard because if Nik cries, either Arthur or Mara come to rescue him and I'm off duty. He likes the book "Five little Monkeys" and I now know it by heart. I can stack his toys up and he will knock them down, he likes to beat on things with his wooden stick (even the window and DVD player). So far so good, I'm getting my baby groove back. It's not as hard being the Grandma compared to being the Mom. Arthur's Mom and Dad help too.

I made it! I called up some of my old skills and saw all the sights. I was very careful because I didn't want Mara to get blamed for losing wife, mother, daughter, sister, auntie, cousin, grandmother etc. in Athens. I traveled by train. It took me 4 hours. I saw the Greek countryside on the way. Since I didn't sleep well the night before the trip was a bit foggy....but it really is foggy here. The humidity was a surprise. Thank goodness the temperatures have cooled. I have asked Mara for some pictures of her Athens trip, since I was having trouble carrying my toothbrush and map and didn't bring a camera. She's looking for them in her collection of photos. I used my strong Bridgman legs to get around the town. Mara had given me a list of things to see and instructions on how to use the Metro. Thank goodness that some things in some big cities are not that much different. My little room had big windows that looked out at the Acropolis especially with all the lights at night. Of course I spent too much time at the train stations not wanting to miss my train. It was nice to get back to Kalampaka .

Here we are on a Sunday outing last week. I met some of Arthur and Mara's friends. We had coffee at their home. We ate dinner in this park and then we went for a walk. It's just about fall here, but I think the days are warm (25 degrees C) I think its the humidity. We also went to a cookie shop. We put most???of them in the freezer. Baby Nik loved all the excitement, especially the kids.

Pictures of baby Oliver. He is so sweet when he is sleeping. He likes to take naps on daddy or any one who is willing to hold him for hours. His fancy bassinet isn't getting used much since he prefers to sleep in our arms or on our chest. Grandma helped us give him a bath, he was in desperate need of one because mommy was afraid to give him one, she is new to all this. Well hope you enjoyed our pictures. We will post more later.

A yearling cow elk walked in front of Mike Wade, (aka, One Shot Charlie), last week when he called it in ("meow, meow", he said). After flinging his arrow it ran around and jumped in a lake. His trusty hunting partner Glen Smith (with the tan) helped pack the elk back to camp. Kilby, Pa Tingley, Nick and Mikey Wade got elk and Nick doubled getting the only deer in camp. All was well this year and the weather was hot. Alan needed a bath said Mikey, TWO WEEKS!!

Meat cutting and packaging night is tommorrow at Alan's shop.

How is your garden doing? We have been eating so many green beans, tomatoes, radishes and lots of zuchinni. We are getting ready to eat corn on the cob too! Notice the new fence in the background. It is a tall one. We also got a new metal roof this week! (Stepped on a rusty nail!) Ouch! I had to go get a tetnus shot! Lots of home improvements going on here!!! We don't have much time for gardening now that school has started and Terry is working more hours also. We are staying busy and having fun fixing up our house (spending the $ is not so fun but watching the houses appearance improve is!)

Summer Is Ending

Fair season is over with the Puyallup Fair coming in a couple of weeks, Foster and Cameron had some great times showing their cows and chickens. The Evergreen Fair last week in Monroe was great and Fosters rooster won the Crowing Contest with 9 crows in 5 minutes. HA!!!

Cameron had the Reserve Champion Female Simmental Heifer. Dillon is still in Kodiak and hasn't been fishing much since the beginning of August. The skipper of his boat has had him weed whacking at his house there and so he thinks he'll come home soon since fishing prospects haven't panned out so good this month. All in all his Alaska summer made him some pretty good cash.

Mike is getting ready to go to Elk camp for two weeks with a bunch of hunting buddies down near Mount Ranier. Foster is going there for his birthday weekend. I am heading over the Cascades with a 4-H family, ( Betsy Benson Christianson)accross Cascade Pass to Stehekin. (21 miles in two days) This is a great trip that one shouldn't miss. And you must stay a night at the Stehekin Valley Ranch owned by the Courtney Family.

Bridgman Family Mother's Day

On Mother's Day the trees were down at the Peter's Property at Bayview, Washington, but there was much to do to ready a building site for the new garage and future house! Not to worry. Over twenty family members (plus Friendly Fred, the Skagit County Fire Marshal) gathered to cut up the trees into firewood, drag and stack the limbs, and burn the brush, and make certain that a burning permit was purchased.

Bridgman Girls Live It Up In Tres Piedras!

Jenny, Tindy and Candy got together for a week in Tres Piedras, Taos and ABQ last week for a whirlwind of home improvement projects in TP, thrift/junking in Taos, (a treasure trove), a family wedding in ABQ for Kelly Caprons brother, hanging with Caleb Capron, (aka... dancin man) and of course the ABQ Flea Market and some city tourning on the ABQ bus. Had dinner with Jenny's friend Debbie and Gill Graves and their family 8 miles outside Tres Piedras. A real mountain showplace. With the TP store and restaraunt closed it's great that Jenny has a friend in the neighborhood.

The truth is the Peter's cabin/home in TP is really beautiful. The area is green and lush with wild flowers and the smell of sage in the air. The community has gr0wn with several permanent homes and a few horse friendly properties cropping up in the vicinty.

SWARM of Bee's

As I was working out in the front flower beds this afternoon I hear my husband and his friend yell "quick get in the house!!!" I thought they were just trying to "play me" so I casually walked to the backyard as they screamed "GET IN THE HOUSE!" There was a HUGE swarm of bee's in our backyard-thousands of bee's. I have never seen such a sight. Terry said they came over in a huge cloud all together. They are hard to see in the pictures and only about 1/2 of them show up. We quickly grabbed the camera as they settled in a small tree next to our shed. For some added excitement Terry shot the bee bee gun into the tree. They seemed to be making a nest in the tree until Terry went to the store and bought more RAID! Our bug zapper was broken so that didn't help us.

Cameron and Chipper participated in the Puget Sound Junior Livestock Show last weekend at the Skagit County fairgrounds. Chipper won champion lamb for his weight class and Cameron won Reserve Champion Novice Showman. Whohooo! A lot of fun and Chip was purchased by Skagit State Bank. Now Cameron is getting Nike and Shoelace ready for the summer fairs and August Livestock Show. Foster has four new blue rosecomb chicks from his new breeding program pair. Dillon left on Tuesday for Bristol Bay and is gill netting on the boat the Chill Cat owned by Gene Higgins of LaConner. Pray for his safety.

It's a tough decision for Nik, does he want a pacifier (bibila in greek) or would he rather suck on his thumb. He has come to the conclusion why not do both at the same time (see video) He also likes to take the bibila out with one hand and suck on his other hand for a while and then he puts his bibila back in. It doesn't always go in correctly but I am pretty proud of his fine motor skills.

Cherry Tree Attack

Arthur and I like to take nice Sunday drives, being that Sunday is normally a very quite day for most Greeks so the roads are fairly empty and really the only people you see out are the tourist. So this last weekend we went up to the Lake, we haven't been their in over a year so it was great seeing it again and it was a little cooler up there than here at home, but it was still pretty darn hot. Nik enjoys the outdoors and was sniffing and looking everywhere, the only time he got upset was when Arthur and I left him in the car while we attacked a cherry tree that was right off of the road. He was sleeping peacefully but I guess stopping the movement of the car woke him up, so we only got a small bag load but it was worth the upset and I know that Nik forgot about it in seconds as only babies do. I still remember the time Mom left us at a road stop when we were traveling with Grandpa and Grandma up to Washington, she thought we were with them and they thought we were with her (ALL 3 of us kids). We sat there waiting on the fence for someone to come back and pick us up, do you still feel guilty mom?
Well you don't have to it makes a great story.
I enjoyed great trout, you have to eat trout when you go to these lakes and rivers because it is so fresh. The cook just goes out back and takes a fish out from the pond, whacks it on the head , cleans it up and then puts it on the grill, reminds me of the way we eat when we are up in Washington. Good times.

First Egg

Hello Family and Friends this is baby Nik enjoying his first village egg. He is a little young to be trying out foods but each time Arthur and I sat down to eat he would watch us and lick his lips like he wanted some. SO we gave him a little bit of boiled yolk from a fresh egg, we have a deal set up with our neighbor they bring us a fresh egg from their farm and we give them the bones leftover from the taverna for their dogs out on the farm.
I realize every parent thinks they have the smartest and cutest kid in the universe, but I actually have a few examples to tell you how smart our little guy is at three and half months.
#1 No Talking to Strangers at just three and half MONTHS baby Nik has realized that he isn't supposed to talk to strangers. At the wedding we attended this weekend he didn't do his usual cooing, gooing and giggling, in fact he held all of his talking ability until it was just my husband and I in the car and then he went to town talking about his day, it was the funniest thing ever. So either he is shy and doesn't like to talk to people he doesn't know or he already knows about the rule that all parents tell their children "No talking to Strangers."
#2 No Farting in Public, okay so most parents probably don't realize how much their baby farts, but since we have the cool colostomy bag on baby Nik we actually see his farts since they fill the bag up with hot air (hahaha! get it "hot air"). Generally baby Nik farts, well alot, would be the word I'm looking for, we have to de-air his bag several times a day. But on the day of the wedding he didn't fart at all, I thought their was a leak in the bag since it was staying so flat with only the poop in it but when we got home and I took a good look at it their was no leaks and the next day when we changed it it was still in sticky order and just to confirm that he was holding back during the wedding the next day he farted many, many times. For some of you this might be to much information but I wanted to share with you how smart our little guy was, he didn't fart at all from 1pm till 10 pm at night, what a smart, courteous little guy such good manners.

Tulips and Snow

Out of town friends and family out to come to visit during the month of April sometime. Several huge fields of different varieties of tulips grown by the Roozen Family. They also grow iris, peonies, gladiolas, daffodils, and lilies.

On the way to the Wade's last night at about 8:00 p.m. Glen and I passed the tulip fields. It is Tulip Festival Time all month and tourists in busses and cars clog the roads during the daytime. The sun was out, and it looked like spring. In fact last week-end it was near 75 degrees. Last night, however, as we were driving home from the Wade's house at about 10:30 p.m. it was snowing huge white feathery flakes!! Although the snow was not sticking to the road, the flakes were so many and so big that we could not even see the centerline and had to drive about 10 miles per hour, white knuckled most of the way home!! Today it has "topped out" at 39 degrees and has snowed most of the morning. I guess I won't be planting the garden today! Oh well.
